Soviet Woman 1982 365 5, video 4’40’’, 2011
The text and the images of the film are taken from the Soviet woman’s magazine Tarybinė Moteris (Soviet woman). The magazine issue 5/365 is from the year 1982.. The letter is an observation of a woman of everyday life that subtly permeated with a didactic tone.. It seems a little bit absurd from nowadays perspective and makes the story of a woman (which maybe was true) unreal. The voice over with American-English accent deepens that impression and suggests its absurdness which continues in the sequence of images. This short film comments the experience of the times where official reality didn’t correspond to true life and worries of people, making them act like in the spectacle called soviet citizen.
